We’re so excited to share Katie & Ramy’s gorgeous St. Michaels wedding with you today! After meeting Katie and Ramy in person at their St. Michaels sailboat engagement session and talking about the details of their day, we knew it was going to be nothing short of incredible!
Elle Ellinghaus and her team pulled together the perfect Eastern Shore meets elegance affair. From the oyster place cards to the dripping florals to the late night fireworks, every single detail of Katie and Ramy’s wedding was perfect!
From the Bride:
Ramy and Katie first met in May 2011. They had initially met online the fall before, however due to their busy schedules were not able to meet in person. They had exchanged numbers but soon lost touch after the holidays. Then, on a DC night in May, fate would have it that they were at the same restaurant at the same time. Ramy saw Katie from across the room, recognized her immediately and knew he had to say hello. He sent a friendly text message and saw her smile when she received it. She came over soon after and the rest is history. Katie and Ramy now very much believe in fate.
Katie and Ramy first went to St. Michaels for the fourth of July 2016 and fell in love with the beautiful quaint town. They both loved the water, the old-fashioned houses and streets, the fun unique shops and the delicious seafood. After they got engaged, they knew it would be a wonderful place to get married. They wanted their wedding to be outside right by the water and had looked at several venues in the area before finding Kirkland Manor. Once they arrived at Kirkland, they knew at once that it was the perfect site for their wedding. The manor was a stunning white old style plantation house with a beautiful brick porch. It had a large vast lawn and the views of the water from the house and the dock were absolutely breath-taking. They fell in love with Kirkland at first site.
The theme of the wedding was coastal chic and the colors were navy, blush and champagne. They also featured their love of oysters throughout the wedding. Ramy used to tell his daughter, Camilia, that he went swimming in the ocean one day and found a beautiful oyster. He opened the oyster expecting to find a pearl but found Katie instead. In addition to the sweet story, Katie and Ramy’s favorite date night is go try different types of oysters! So, they knew oysters had to be prominent in their wedding. They had an artistic family friend create a watercolor oyster to use as their save the date. They loved his creation so much, they featured it several times throughout the wedding including on the menu cards and table numbers. They also had a calligrapher create escort cards made out of oyster shells for each guest and featured an oyster champagne bar at their cocktail hour. In addition to the coastal chic theme, Katie and Ramy wanted to focus on blending their unique cultures and families together as one. The wedding featured several Egyptian touches, a nod to the groom’s heritage, most notably the first dance and the rocking after party. The cocktail hour also featured a family tree with wedding pictures from both the bride and groom’s families, allowing guests to feel closer to each family.
Katie’s favorite party of the wedding was the first reveal with Ramy. It took place down by the water in front of a ivy covered arch. She was nervous to see Ramy and have him finally see her dress, but his expression once he turned around was everything she had hoped for. Katie also loved the tent reveal after seeing all the months of hard work that she, her mom and their fabulous wedding planner Elle Ellinghaus had put into making a spectacular wedding. Ramy’s favorite part of the wedding was the first dance, which was to one of his favorite Egyptian songs, “Sadakny Khalas” by Amr Diab. Ramy had surprised Katie 2 years ago by taking her to an Amr Diab concert in Egypt and she has been a fan ever since. He also loved the Egyptian themed after party featured a DJ mixing all of Ramy’s favorite music, both Arabic and American, a henna artist creating dazzling unique designs, and Egyptian treats such as hummus, falafel and of course baklava. Finally, Camilia, make it known that her absolute favorite part of the wedding was dancing to the music until late into the evening.
